Bien fraternellement,

Vice-province Saint Thomas d’Aquin en Belgique

Members of Lay Dominican Fraternities and their religious assistants

Dear brothers and sisters in Saint Dominic,

On the occasion of the 10th European Assembly of Lay Dominican Fraternities which took place in Fatima, Portugal from 4 to 8 October 2017, the Vice-Province of Belgium submitted a motion about welcoming people in so-called irregular situations into lay Dominican fraternities. (Version française – English version)

In its reply of October 2017 (version française – English version – versión en español), the European Council of Lay Dominican Fraternities, on behalf of the Assembly, « formally proposed to each Province to reflect on this motion for one year so that it can bring and share the experiences and reflections of each Province at the International Assembly of the Lay Dominican Fraternities ».

As the International Assembly is drawing nearer, our Vice-Province would like to respond to this invitation and share what is experienced in our fraternities in the hereby annexed statement. We do this without any intention of feeding a polemic and with utter respect for the various shades of opinion expressed on this subject, with the sole purpose of bringing food for thought to the Dominican authorities that might want to look into this issue.

Thanking you for your kind attention, we would be grateful for the widespread distribution of our statement and look forward to receiving your questions and responses.

Fraternally yours in St Dominic,

St Thomas Aquinas Vice-Province of Belgium
On behalf of the Lay Dominican Vice-Provincial Council
Ludovic Namurois, o.p.
President
